The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamist terrorist group Al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. In Washington, five hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. I made these photographs when I was able to reach the Pentagon. The area near the Pentagon became a gathering place after the shock of the attacks on the United States.
